Miles Overview
The Golf R is Volkswagen's top hot hatch, the one you cross-shop with the Civic Type R and the GR Corolla. The all-wheel-drive system and adaptive dampers make it feel sharp and adjustable, though the ride is on the firm side. Inside, you get a well-built cabin with sport seats and a digital cockpit, and it's still a practical hatchback for daily life. The 2.0L I4 makes 328 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, and the seven-speed automatic sends power to all four wheels for strong acceleration in any weather. The R's adaptive dampers let you soften the ride for daily driving or firm it up for a back road, but the trade is a stiffer feel than the GTI.
