Miles Overview
The Golf R is VW's hot hatchback, the one that takes the Golf GTI's formula and adds serious all-weather grip. It's genuinely quick and corners flat, so you'll want to find a back road the moment you get behind the wheel. The ride is on the firm side, which is the trade for how well it handles, but it settles down on the highway. Despite the performance, it's still a practical hatchback with a usable back seat and a good-sized cargo area. The Golf R is the top performer in VW's hatchback range, sitting above the GTI with more power and standard all-wheel drive. The 2.0L I4 makes 315 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, and with the six-speed manual and all-wheel drive, it launches hard off the line. You get a dedicated drift mode that shuffles torque to the rear wheels, which is a party trick the GTI can't match.
