2024 Volkswagen Golf R R

The Golf R is Volkswagen's top hot hatch, the one that pairs the Golf's everyday usability with serious performance. It's the Golf that feels most alive, with sharp steering and a chassis that stays composed when you push hard. Inside, you get supportive sport seats and a clean digital cockpit, though rear space is typical for a compact hatch. Expect to pay a bit more for insurance and premium fuel, but the R holds its value well among enthusiasts. The R is the only Golf hot hatch this year, so you get the full performance treatment without having to choose between a lesser GTI or a more expensive model. Its 2.0L I4 makes 315 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, routed through a seven-speed automatic and all-wheel drive that deliver confident grip in any weather. It returns 25 mpg combined, which is reasonable for the power on tap, and it requires premium fuel.
