Miles Overview
The Golf R is Volkswagen's hot hatch, the one that packs serious performance into a practical five-door body. It's a blast to drive, with sharp steering and a chassis that feels eager and composed on a back road. The ride is firm, which is the trade for how flat it stays through corners, but it settles down on the highway. Inside, you get a clean, upscale cabin with supportive seats and a hatch that swallows a surprising amount of gear. The 20th Anniversary Edition adds unique badging and blue accents inside and out over the standard R, for a small premium. Its 2.0L I4 makes 315 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, sent through a seven-speed automatic to all-wheel drive that claws through corners; it returns 26 mpg combined.
