Miles Overview
The 2012 Touareg is Volkswagen's full-size luxury SUV, a more upscale take on the platform shared with the Porsche Cayenne. It drives with a composed, planted feel that makes long highway miles easy, and the available air suspension smooths out rough pavement. The cabin is roomy and quiet, with supportive seats and plenty of space for five, though the cargo area is a bit smaller than some rivals. Reliability is a mixed bag; owners report some water pump and sensor issues, but many say the car holds up well with regular maintenance. The TDI trim is the one to pick if you want diesel torque and fuel economy, while the VR6 gives you a smoother gas V6. Its 3.0L V6 produces 225 horsepower and a hefty 406 lb-ft of torque, paired with the eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive for confident all-weather traction, and it achieves 22 mpg combined. The available air suspension gives the TDI a smoother ride over rough roads, and the diesel's low-end grunt makes it a solid tow vehicle.
