Miles Overview
The 2016 Touareg is Volkswagen's full-size luxury SUV, the one you cross-shop with the BMW X5 and Mercedes GLE. The ride is smooth and quiet, and the seats are genuinely comfortable for long trips. The cabin feels upscale and roomy up front, though the rear seats don't fold completely flat, which cuts into cargo space. The VR6 FSI is the entry-level Touareg, giving up the TDI's diesel torque and range for a lower starting price. Its 3.6L I6 produces 280 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque, routed through a eight-speed automatic to all-wheel drive, and returns 19 mpg combined. You get a full-size spare tire under the cargo floor, which is rare in this class and a real help on a long trip.
