Miles Overview
The 1991 Vanagon is the final year of Volkswagen's iconic rear-engine van, a vehicle that feels more like a tiny cabin on wheels than a traditional minivan. It's slow and unapologetically so, but the Vanagon's charm is in its unhurried, analog character and the way it makes every journey feel like an adventure. The interior is basic and utilitarian, but the optional camper package adds a stove, refrigerator, and a pop-up bed that truly makes it a home on the road. Owners note the radiator tends to overheat, so keeping an eye on the cooling system is part of the Vanagon ownership experience. Its 2.1L I4 makes 90 horsepower and sends power to the rear-wheel drive through a four-speed manual, which means you'll be shifting often to keep momentum on hills. The BUS comes with bare vinyl floors and no rear seats as standard, so you can fit plywood sheets or camping gear flat on the floor.
