Miles Overview
This is the 911, Porsche's rear-engine sports car, the one people cross-shop with the Corvette and the NSX. The steering is direct and the chassis feels balanced, so you can place the car exactly where you want it on a back road. The cabin is snug but well laid out, with clear gauges and comfortable seats that hold you in place during hard cornering. Expect to pay a premium for parts and labor, and keep an eye on the cooling system since air-cooled engines run hot. Rear-wheel drive and a lighter curb weight set the Carrera apart from the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 and 4S. Its 3.6L I6 makes 282 horsepower and pairs with a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic, sending power to rear-wheel drive. You can get the Carrera as a coupe, a cabriolet, or a targa, and the optional sport exhaust gives the flat-six a sharper note.
