Miles Overview
The 911 is Porsche's flagship sports car, and this generation is the one that brought water cooling to the iconic rear-engine layout. It's a driver's car through and through, with a flat-six that sounds fantastic and handling that rewards smooth inputs. The cabin is snug but well laid out, and the convertible's canvas top has a plastic rear window that can haze with sun exposure. Some plastic cooling components can fail with age, so it's worth having a pre-purchase inspection by someone who knows these cars. The Carrera is the rear-wheel-drive base model, giving up the Carrera 4's all-weather traction for a lighter feel and lower price. Its 3.4L I6 makes 296 horsepower and pairs with a six-speed manual, sending power to the rear wheels for a pure sports-car experience; it returns 18 mpg combined.
