Miles Overview
The 1998 SLK-Class is Mercedes' two-seat roadster, the one that brought a folding hardtop to the masses. The cabin is snug, and the trunk shrinks when the top is down, so pack light for a weekend trip. Owners report that the retractable hardtop can need realignment over time, but the engines are known to be durable. Its 2.3L I4 makes 185 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque, routed through a five-speed automatic to the rear wheels, which gives it enough punch for a fun Sunday drive but not the urgency of a sports car. The retractable hardtop is the party trick here, stowing in about 25 seconds to turn the coupe into an open-air cruiser whenever the mood strikes.
