Miles Overview
This is BMW's compact SUV, the one that slots below the X5 and competes with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz ML and the Lexus RX. The X3 feels more like a sporty wagon than a typical SUV, with quick steering and a firm, controlled ride that makes it fun on back roads. Inside, you get a roomy cabin with plenty of cargo space, and the large sunroof and power seats are nice touches for the era. Owners mention that plastic cooling components can crack and cause overheating, and the window regulators are known to fail. The 2.5i is the entry point for the X3, with a smaller engine than the 3.0i but the same all-wheel drive and standard equipment. Its 2.5L I6 makes 184 horsepower and pairs with the automatic transmission, which gives you enough power for daily driving but feels a bit strained on the highway. The 2.5i's standard suspension is tuned for comfort over the sportier 3.0i's setup, so the ride is a little softer over bumps.
