Miles Overview
The 2006 M5 is BMW's high-performance version of the 5 Series sedan, aimed squarely at the Audi RS6 and Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG. The ride is firm, especially in the sportiest settings, but that's the trade-off for the razor-sharp handling. Inside, you get heavily bolstered sport seats and a driver-focused cockpit, though rear legroom is a bit tight for a car this size. The M5 is the only 5 Series trim with this powertrain, so you get the full 500 horsepower and the track-focused suspension tuning. Its 5.0L I10 revs to 8250 rpm, and with rear-wheel drive it feels alive on every back road, though the city fuel economy is 11 mpg city. The optional SMG III automated manual transmission shifts quickly, but it can be jerky in stop-and-go traffic.
