Miles Overview
The M3 is BMW's performance coupe and convertible, the one enthusiasts cross-shop with the Audi S4 and Mercedes C43. It's a sharp, engaging drive with a high-revving engine and a manual gearbox that makes every trip feel like an event. The cabin is driver-focused with supportive seats, though rear seats in the coupe are tight for adults. Owners love the performance and looks, but expect to spend on cooling system and rubber parts as the car ages. A convertible body and a five-speed automatic set the 1999 M3 Base apart from the coupe and manual-transmission versions. The 3.2L I6 makes 240 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque, sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic that shifts smoothly but lacks the engagement of the manual. The convertible's extra weight softens the ride slightly, but the chassis still feels balanced and responsive on a back road.
