Miles Overview
The 2018 5 Series is a midsize luxury sedan that slots between the 3 Series and the 7 Series, competing with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6. The 5 Series balances comfort and agility, with sharp steering and a composed ride that makes it enjoyable on twisty roads. Inside, the cabin is upscale and roomy, with supportive seats and a user-friendly iDrive infotainment system. Reliability is generally good for the 2018 model year, though some owners have reported issues with the cooling system and electronics. The 540i xDrive gives up the M550i's V8 for a smooth inline-six, saving thousands while keeping the same all-wheel-drive grip. Its 3.0L I6 makes 335 horsepower and pairs with a eight-speed automatic that shifts quickly, making this a strong highway cruiser that still feels eager when you push it. The xDrive system gives you confident traction in rain or snow, though the ride is slightly firmer than the rear-drive 540i.
