Miles Overview
The 5 Series is BMW's mid-size luxury sedan, the one you cross-shop with the Mercedes E-Class and Audi A6. It's the rare sedan that feels genuinely sharp on a back road, with steering that talks to you and a chassis that stays composed. Inside, you get a clean, driver-focused cabin with plenty of rear legroom and a trunk that swallows luggage for a weekend away. The iDrive infotainment system is one of the easiest to use, with a rotary controller and crisp screen that respond quickly. The 540i xDrive gets BMW's smooth 3.0L I6 and all-wheel drive, skipping the base 530i's four-cylinder and rear-drive setup. The 3.0L I6 makes 335 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, and the eight-speed automatic shifts crisply enough to keep the engine on boil during a hard run. With the optional Dynamic Handling package you get active roll stabilization and adaptive dampers, tightening cornering without upsetting the ride.
