2017 BMW 5 Series 540i

The 5 Series is BMW's mid-size luxury sedan, the one you cross-shop with the Mercedes E-Class and Audi A6. It's the rare sedan that feels genuinely sharp on a back road, with steering that talks to you and a chassis that stays composed. Inside, you get a clean, driver-focused cabin with plenty of rear legroom and a trunk that swallows luggage for a weekend away. The iDrive infotainment system is one of the easiest to use, with a rotary controller and crisp screen that respond quickly. The 540i replaces the 530i's four-cylinder with a six-cylinder that pulls harder from any speed, plus dual-zone climate control and leather upholstery as standard. If you see one with the optional M Sport package, you get an adaptive suspension that firms up noticeably in Sport mode without ruining the daily ride.
