Miles Overview
The 2011 5 Series is BMW's mid-size luxury sedan, the one that goes up against the Audi A6 and Mercedes E-Class. It's a car that feels eager and composed on a back road, with steering that tells you exactly what the front tires are doing. The ride is on the firm side, which is the trade for how well it handles, but it still settles down nicely on the highway. Inside, the cabin is roomy for four adults, and the trunk is generous for a sedan of this size. Choosing the 550i over the 528i or 535i means giving up a bit of fuel economy for a V8 that transforms the car. 4.4L V8 makes 400 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed manual and rear-wheel drive, getting 17 mpg combined.
