Miles Overview
The 2014 BMW 3 Series is the compact sport sedan benchmark, offered as a sedan or wagon with rear- or all-wheel drive. It squares off against the Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and Lexus IS, with a Gran Turismo hatchback adding a bit more space. The steering is precise and the chassis balanced, making the 3 Series genuinely enjoyable on a back road. The ride is firm, especially on run-flat tires, but that tautness is the trade-off for its sharp handling. The sedan offers a usable trunk and comfortable rear seats, while the wagon adds versatility for cargo. Its 3.0L I6 makes 300 horsepower and pairs with the eight-speed automatic, so it pulls hard from any speed and the xDrive system lets you use that power year-round without drama. The xDrive sedan still handles like a 3 Series should, though the all-wheel-drive hardware adds a bit of weight you'll feel in quick transitions.
