2019 BMW 2 Series 230i

The 2 Series is BMW's compact two-door, offered as a coupe or convertible, and it's the smallest rear-drive-based car in the lineup. It's a sharp little driver's car, with quick steering and a balanced chassis that makes it feel playful on a back road. The ride is on the firm side, especially with the M Sport suspension, but that's the trade for how flat it stays in corners. Inside, the cabin is snug but well put together, and the back seats are best left for short trips or extra cargo. The 230i gives up the M240i's six-cylinder and 87 extra horses, but it's still plenty quick for daily driving and saves thousands at the start. Its 2.0L I4 makes 248 horsepower and pairs with a smooth eight-speed automatic, and with rear-wheel drive it returns 27 mpg combined on regular fuel. As a convertible, this 230i drops the top for open-air driving, though the extra weight and softer structure are the trade for the sun.
