2017 BMW 2 Series 230i

The 2 Series is BMW's compact coupe and convertible, the smallest rear-drive platform in the lineup that year. It's the rare small car that still feels eager and balanced, with sharp steering and a chassis that loves a back road. The cabin is snug in back, but up front you get a clean, driver-focused layout with quality materials throughout. Expect higher-than-average running costs for the segment, with premium fuel and pricey BMW maintenance. Its 2.0L I4 makes 248 horsepower and pairs with a smooth eight-speed automatic that keeps the engine in its sweet spot; expect 27 mpg combined on premium fuel.
