2021 BMW 4 Series M440i xDrive

The 4 Series is BMW's two-door coupe and convertible, sized between the 3 Series sedan and the larger 8 Series. If you're also looking at an Audi A5 or a Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe, this is the one that leans hardest into driver engagement. The steering is quick and the chassis feels eager, so it's genuinely fun to hustle down a back road. The ride is on the firm side, which is the trade for how well it corners, but it settles down on the highway. The M440i xDrive is the performance step up from the 430i, with a much stronger engine and standard all-wheel drive, but you give up the base model's lower price and slightly better fuel economy. Its 3.0L I6 makes 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, and the eight-speed automatic sends power to all four wheels, giving it strong acceleration and confident traction in wet or snowy conditions. The M440i xDrive gets a sportier exhaust note and adaptive M suspension as standard, so it sounds more aggressive and handles tighter than the 430i, though the ride is firmer as a result.
