Miles Overview
The 2005 Elise is a featherweight mid-engine coupe, the car that put Lotus back on the map in America. With its tiny footprint and razor-sharp steering, the Elise feels like a road-legal go-kart that turns every corner into an event. The ride is firm and the cabin is snug, but that's the price you pay for a car that weighs less than a Miata. There's barely any storage and the seats are fixed, so you'll want to pack light and bring a co-pilot who's flexible. Its Toyota-sourced 1.8L I4 makes 190 horsepower and pairs with a six-speed manual, which is enough to hustle this coupe to 60 mph in under five seconds while returning 22 mpg combined. The Elise's fixed-back seats and lack of power steering are part of the experience, so expect a focused cockpit that rewards every input with immediate response.
