Miles Overview
The MP4-12C Spider is McLaren's first convertible, a mid-engined supercar that trades a fixed roof for a folding hardtop without losing the carbon-fiber tub's stiffness. It's a car that rewards smooth inputs, with razor-sharp steering and a ride that's firm but never harsh on a decent road. Inside, the cabin is snug and driver-focused, with a low seating position and a simple, functional layout that puts the controls within easy reach. Early examples had some electronic gremlins and a fussy transmission at low speeds, so a well-maintained car with a full service history is worth seeking out. The Spider is the open-air version of the MP4-12C, and it's the only way to get this mid-engined supercar with the top down. The retractable hardtop is the party piece here, and it works at speeds up to 19 mph, so you can drop it without pulling over.
