Miles Overview
The Discovery is Land Rover's seven-seat family SUV, the one that brought serious off-road ability to a practical body. It feels planted and confident on trails, with a low-range transfer case and plenty of ground clearance for rough going. On pavement the ride is a bit wallowy and the steering is vague, but that's the trade for how well it handles dirt. The tall, boxy cabin gives you commanding views and a genuinely useful third row, though cargo space behind it is tight. The SE is the well-equipped starting point, with standard leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, and power front seats that the base model didn't offer. Under the hood is a 4.6L V8 paired with an automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive, which gives you steady low-end grunt for crawling but only 12 mpg combined on a good day. The SE's optional rear locking differential makes a real difference when the trail gets slippery, and it's one of the few things that separates this trim from the higher-end HSE.
