Miles Overview
The Defender is Land Rover's utilitarian workhorse, the one built for serious off-roading rather than pavement comfort. On the road it's a bit truck-like, but that's the trade-off for its unmatched trail capability. The cabin is basic and functional, with hard plastics and a no-frills layout that prioritizes durability over luxury. You get a boxy body that maximizes cargo space, and the short wheelbase versions are surprisingly nimble off-road. The Defender is Land Rover's stripped-down off-roader, without the luxury gear you'd find in a Range Rover or Discovery. It uses a 2.4-liter four-cylinder diesel, which pulls strongly at low revs but is slower and noisier than modern engines. You can order it with a soft top or hard top, but either way expect a stiff ride and steering that needs constant attention.
