Miles Overview
The Defender is Land Rover's rugged SUV, the one you cross-shop with a Jeep Wrangler or Toyota Land Cruiser if you actually plan to go off-road. On pavement it drives with surprising composure for a boxy off-roader, and the steering is light enough for easy city work. The cabin is utilitarian but tough, with exposed rivets and rubberized surfaces that wipe clean after a muddy trail day. You get a high seating position and lots of glass, so visibility is excellent, and the rear seats fold flat for bulky gear. The SE sits below the HSE and X-Dynamic trims, so you get the same capable chassis but skip some luxury interior upgrades to keep the price lower. Its 2.0L I4 makes 296 horsepower and pairs with an automatic transmission and four-wheel drive, which is enough for daily driving but feels less urgent than the available six-cylinder.
