Miles Overview
It competes with the Nissan Juke, Honda HR-V, and Toyota C-HR for buyers who want something more distinctive than a typical small SUV. The Soul's only engine is a peppy 2.0-liter four-cylinder that pairs with a six-speed automatic, delivering adequate acceleration for city driving. The ride is composed over most surfaces, though the tall body can lean a bit in corners; that's the trade-off for its upright seating. Inside, the Soul offers generous headroom and a surprisingly roomy back seat, but cargo space is limited by the hatchback design. Owners report trouble-free miles and dependable mechanicals, with the main complaints being a lack of rear cup holders and a spare tire. The same 2.0L I4 makes 164 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque, and with the six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive it gets 27 mpg combined. The FlexSteer system lets you toggle between Normal, Sport, and Comfort steering effort, a feature unique to this trim.
