Miles Overview
The GX 470 is Lexus's midsize luxury SUV, the softer-edged sibling to the Toyota Land Cruiser-based LX 470 and a direct rival to the BMW X5 and Mercedes ML. It's a body-on-frame truck underneath, so it's not a sporty handler, but the ride is plush and the steering is light, making it an easy cruiser on long trips. Inside, the cabin is a quiet, wood-trimmed place with comfortable leather seats, and it seats five with a usable cargo area behind the second row. This generation of GX has a strong reputation for durability, with many examples passing 200,000 miles with just routine maintenance. Body-on-frame toughness and full-time four-wheel drive set the 470 apart from unibody luxury SUVs like the BMW X5. The 4.7L V8 makes 227 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque, giving it relaxed, effortless acceleration, though it returns 15 mpg combined. A rear air suspension was available, letting you raise the chassis for off-road clearance or lower it for easier loading.
