Miles Overview
This is Toyota's rugged mid-size SUV, the one that still uses a body-on-frame layout for serious off-road duty. On pavement it's not quick, but off-road it's genuinely capable, with a low-range transfer case and plenty of ground clearance. The ride is on the firm side, which is the trade-off for how well it handles rough trails. Inside, you get a sturdy, simple cabin with comfortable seats and a third-row option for occasional extra passengers. The SR5 is the most popular 4Runner, mixing everyday comfort with the rugged hardware you need for trails. Its 4.0L V6 makes 270 horsepower and pairs with a five-speed automatic and four-wheel drive, returning 18 mpg combined. Downhill Assist Control and skid plates come standard, so you can head straight for the rough stuff without extra prep.
