Miles Overview
The 4Runner is Toyota's rugged midsize SUV, the one you cross-shop with a Jeep Grand Cherokee or a Nissan Pathfinder when you want something that can handle real trails. It drives with a truck-like feel that's honest and capable, and the body-on-frame construction means it shrugs off rough roads that would rattle a crossover. The ride is on the firm side, especially over broken pavement, but that's the trade for how planted it feels on the highway and how stable it is off-road. The rear window rolls down on its own, which is great for hauling long lumber or just airing out the cabin on a warm day. The SR5 is the well-equipped starting point, and stepping up from the base model adds the V8 and four-wheel drive for real off-road capability. The 4.7L V8 makes 227 horsepower and pairs with the automatic transmission and four-wheel drive, giving you low-end grunt for trails and confident towing. Fuel economy is 15 mpg combined, which is typical for a body-on-frame SUV with a V8 and a transfer case.
