Miles Overview
The CX-9 is Mazda's three-row family SUV, the one you cross-shop with the Highlander and Pilot when you want something that feels less like a minivan. It drives smaller than it looks, with responsive steering and a firm, controlled ride that keeps body roll in check on winding roads. Inside, the cabin feels upscale for the price, with quality materials and a clean layout, though the third row is best left to kids and the cargo space shrinks when it's up. Owners report solid reliability overall, with a few early battery issues and one rear shock replacement, but most say maintenance has been care-free. The Touring adds the convenience of a power liftgate and blind-spot monitoring over the Sport, plus the option of all-wheel drive. Its 2.5L I4 pairs with a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, returning 23 mpg combined while feeling punchy around town.
