Miles Overview
The 2014 CX-5 is Mazda's compact SUV, the one that feels more like a sporty hatchback than a typical family hauler. It's genuinely fun to hustle down a back road, with quick steering and a chassis that stays flat through corners. The back seat is snug for adults, but fold it flat and there's room for a bike or a load of camping gear. Owners report few problems beyond a liftgate recall, and routine maintenance stays cheap and infrequent. The Sport is the base CX-5, with a smaller engine and a six-speed manual that makes it the lightest and most engaging to drive. Its 2.0L I4 makes 155 horsepower and pairs with the six-speed manual, which is rare in this class and lets you wring out every rev. You get the 7-inch touchscreen only as an option here, and the ride is firm enough that you'll feel expansion joints.
