The CX-3 is Mazda's smallest crossover, a subcompact wagon that's a bit more fun to drive than most in its class. It's eager through corners with light, direct steering, and the ride is firm but composed on most roads. The cabin feels upscale for the price, though rear-seat space and cargo room are tight, even by subcompact standards. Standard tech includes a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus the full i-Activsense safety suite. The Sport is the entry trim, so you skip the blind-spot monitoring and heated seats of the Touring, but you save a few thousand dollars. Its 2.0L I4 makes 148 horsepower and pairs with a six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive, good for 31 mpg combined. The Sport rides on 16-inch steel wheels instead of the alloys you get on higher trims, which is fine for winter tires but less polished to look at.
