Miles Overview
This Forester is Subaru's compact SUV, the one that started the modern crossover craze with its tall roof and big windows. The boxer engine keeps the center of gravity low, so it corners flatter than most tall SUVs and feels stable at highway speeds. The ride is a bit bumpy over rough pavement, which is the trade for that planted, car-like handling. The cabin is roomy for the size, with a big cargo area and those handy rear cup holders that keep kids from squabbling. Stepping up to the Premium adds alloy wheels, fog lights, and a power driver's seat over the base 2.5X, with the same fuel economy from the 22 mpg combined rating. The 2.5L I4 makes 170 horsepower and pairs with the five-speed manual, which lets you wring out the powerband on a twisty back road. The Premium is the only trim that offers the cold-weather package with heated seats and heated side mirrors, a nice addition if you live where frost forms.
