Miles Overview
The 2005 Forester is a compact SUV that feels more like a tall wagon, with a practical interior and a huge sunroof on many trims. The boxer engine is known for longevity, but head gaskets and wheel bearings are common wear items as the miles pile up. Owners note that the interior can get noisy at highway speeds, and the check engine light may come on due to a minor sensor quirk rather than a real problem. The XT is the performance pick of the Forester range, trading the X and XS's softer tuning for a much quicker factory build. With the 2.5L and automatic transmission, this SUV delivers strong acceleration and the standard all-wheel drive keeps it planted in all weather. The XT's stiffer suspension and quicker steering make it genuinely rewarding on winding roads, though the ride is firmer for daily commuting.
