Miles Overview
The Impreza is Subaru's compact car, offered as a sedan or wagon, with the sporty WRX STI at the top of the range. The cabin is roomy for a small car, with a surprisingly large trunk and folding rear seats that make it easy to haul bulky items. Owners report that these cars are dependable and inexpensive to maintain, though the AWD system can mean higher tire costs over time. Buyers who want the hardcore Subaru experience go straight for the STI over the regular WRX, getting a stronger engine, a stiffened suspension, and a driver-focused cockpit. The 2.5L I4 makes 300 horsepower and pulls hard through the six-speed manual, and the all-wheel-drive system lets you put that power down early coming out of corners. The STI rides firmly and the big wing limits rear visibility, so it's a dedicated performer rather than a cushy daily driver.
