Miles Overview
The 2017 Sonata is Hyundai's mid-size sedan, competing with the Camry, Accord, and Fusion. It's a comfortable commuter with a smooth ride, though the base engine feels a bit sluggish when merging. The cabin is roomy, especially in back, and the trunk is large with folding rear seats for extra space. Available tech includes a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on higher trims. Stepping up to the ECO from the base SE swaps the 2.4L four for the 1.6L I4 and a seven-speed automatic, boosting highway fuel economy without giving up much power. The 1.6L I4 makes 178 horsepower and pairs with a seven-speed automatic to return 31 mpg combined, making it the most efficient non-hybrid Sonata for highway cruising. The ECO's seven-speed dual-clutch automatic shifts quickly when you're on it, though it can feel hesitant in stop-and-go traffic.
