Miles Overview
The Xterra is Nissan's compact SUV, built to go off-road without giving up everyday usefulness. It feels sturdy and planted, with a truck-like ride that handles rough terrain confidently. The cabin is straightforward and roomy, with plenty of cargo hooks and space for five. Some owners mention the gas gauge can fail, and the dash plastic may crack over time. The SE is the mid-level Xterra, giving up the Off-Road trim's Bilstein shocks and locking rear diff for a lower price and a more road-friendly ride. Its 4.0L automatic transmission and four-wheel drive make it a confident companion on dirt trails and in snow, though the fuel economy is what you'd expect from a body-on-frame SUV. The SE can be ordered with the Utility Package, which adds a roof-mounted cargo basket and a 12-volt outlet in the back for tailgate power.
