Miles Overview
The 1999 Z3 is BMW's take on a classic two-seat roadster, offered as a convertible or a hatchback coupe they called the M Coupe. The cabin is snug but well laid out, with decent trunk space for a two-seater and available seat warmers to extend the top-down season. Owners praise the styling and driving pleasure but warn that repairs and parts cost more than you'd guess for such a small car. The 2.3 is the entry-level Z3, trading the 2.8's extra horsepower for a lower entry price and the same balanced rear-drive chassis. Its 2.5L I6 makes 168 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic that suits relaxed cruising more than aggressive cornering. Expect 20 mpg combined from this convertible, and budget for cooling system upkeep as the car ages.
