Miles Overview
The Z3 is BMW's two-seat roadster, a compact convertible that's more about back-road fun than long-distance comfort. It's a small, nimble car that feels quick and eager, with direct steering that makes it a joy on twisty roads. Inside, it's snug but not cramped, and the trunk is surprisingly roomy for a roadster of this size. Owners mention the soft top can leak around the rear window as it ages, and repairs tend to be pricey. The 1.9 is the four-cylinder Z3, giving up the 2.8's extra power for a lighter nose and lower running costs. Its 1.9L I4 makes 138 horsepower and returns 23 mpg combined, which is respectable for a convertible of this era. The five-speed automatic is the only transmission offered on the 1.9, so expect a relaxed, easygoing character rather than a sharp sports-car feel.
