Miles Overview
The GLS is Mercedes' full-size luxury SUV, the one you cross-shop with the BMW X7 and the Range Rover. It's a big SUV that drives smaller than it is, with a composed ride and plenty of power from every engine. Inside, the cabin is genuinely opulent, with three rows of seats that fit adults in the back and a huge cargo area behind the third row. The dual 12.3-inch screens run Mercedes' latest MBUX system, and the standard driver aids include active braking and blind-spot monitoring. The GLS 63 S AMG sits above the GLS 450 and GLS 580, trading some fuel economy for a handcrafted 4.0L V8 and AMG's sharpest chassis hardware. Its 4.0L V8 makes 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, routed through a nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive that launch this big SUV with surprising urgency. The AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension with active anti-roll bars keeps body lean in check, but the ride is firm enough that you'll feel expansion joints.
