Miles Overview
The GLE-Class is Mercedes-Benz's mid-size luxury SUV, the one that competes with the BMW X5 and Audi Q7. It drives with a commanding view of the road and a smooth, quiet demeanor that makes long trips effortless. The ride is plush and well controlled, soaking up bumps without feeling floaty. Inside, the cabin is roomy and upscale, with comfortable seats and a generous cargo area. The GLE 550e gives up the GLE 400's pure-gas V6 for a plug-in hybrid that returns 21 mpg combined and adds electric-only range, but it costs about the same as the GLE 43 AMG. Its 3.0L V6 plug-in hybrid pairs with a seven-speed automatic and all-wheel drive for 436 horsepower total, and the electric motor fills in off the line so it feels punchy from a stop. Only the 550e offers a plug-in charge port and a dedicated E-Mode that lets you run on electricity alone for short trips around town.
