Miles Overview
The GLE-Class is Mercedes-Benz's mid-size luxury SUV, slotting between the GLC and the full-size GLS. It takes on the BMW X5, Audi Q7, and Range Rover Sport in the premium three-row SUV segment. The GLE rides smoothly and quietly, with a composed demeanor that suits long highway trips. Handling is secure and predictable, though the high seating position means some body roll in corners. Inside, the cabin is plush and spacious, with comfortable seats and a user-friendly infotainment system. The 300d is the diesel choice, trading the 350's gasoline V6 for better fuel economy at a slightly lower starting price. Its 2.1L I4 makes 201 horsepower and a stout 369 lb-ft of torque, paired with a seven-speed automatic and all-wheel drive for a relaxed, torquey feel that returns 24 mpg combined. The diesel's low-rev grunt makes it a natural cruiser, but expect the engine to be noisier at idle than the gasoline GLEs.
