Miles Overview
The Eclipse is Mitsubishi's compact sporty hatchback, the one you'd cross-shop with a Civic Coupe or a Celica if you want something a little more distinctive. It's genuinely fun to drive, with a responsive throttle and handling that feels sharp on back roads, though the ride is on the firm side. The front seats are comfortable and supportive, but the rear seat is tight for adults and the thick roof pillars create a notable blind spot. Owners report strong reliability, with many eclipses passing 100,000 miles needing only routine wear items like tires and brakes. The GS is the base Eclipse, skipping the SE's extra chrome and the GT's V6 to keep the price down while still offering the same hatchback body and comfortable front seats. Its 2.4L I4 makes 162 horsepower and pairs with a four-speed automatic, which is smooth around town but feels less eager on the highway than the GT's six-speed. The GS's standard 16-inch steel wheels and simpler suspension tune give a slightly softer ride than the sportier SE and GT trims.
