Miles Overview
The New Beetle is VW's retro-styled compact, offered as a hatchback or convertible for 2006. It's a cheerful little car that feels nimble around town, with a ride that's on the firm side. The cabin is quirky and well-built, but rear seats are tight and the trunk opening is small. Reliability is a mixed bag, with some owners reporting electrical issues and pricey repairs. The New Beetle convertible gives up the hatchback's practicality and lower price for open-air driving, but it's the only way to get the sun in your hair. Its 2.5L I5 makes 150 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic that's smooth but not quick, and it returns 22 mpg combined. The convertible's power soft top folds in about 13 seconds, but rear seat room is even tighter than the hatchback's.
