Miles Overview
The 2014 Beetle is Volkswagen's retro-styled compact, offered as a hatchback or convertible with a front-drive layout. It's genuinely fun to drive, with a smooth ride and enough pep to merge onto highways without flooring it. Inside, you get a chic cabin with nice leather details, plenty of headroom up front, and easy-to-clean surfaces. Some owners have had issues with the curved windows getting stuck and the window controls failing after water exposure. This is the base Beetle, sitting below the TDI diesel and the sporty R-Line, and it's the most affordable way into the model. Its 2.5L I5 makes 170 horsepower and pairs with a six-speed automatic, delivering smooth, willing power that feels stronger than the numbers suggest. You get the same retro styling and solid build as the pricier trims, with the trade-off being a simpler interior without the R-Line's sport seats or unique trim.
