The 2016 Tacoma is Toyota's mid-size pickup, the one you cross-shop with the Colorado and Frontier if you want a truck that's easy to park but still hauls real loads. It's not quick, but the Tacoma feels nimble for a truck, and the steering is light enough that it's genuinely easy to maneuver in town and on tight trails. The cabin is roomy up front, with comfortable seats and a back seat that fits adults in the Double Cab, though the Access Cab's rear is tight for anything but cargo. The short bed is about five and a half feet long, which is just right for a snowboard, a mattress, or a weekend camping trip, and the tailgate is easy to lower. The TRD Off-Road upgrades the SR5 with Bilstein shocks, an electronically locking rear differential, and Multi-Terrain Select for serious trail capability. Its 3.5L V6 makes 278 horsepower and sends power through four-wheel drive with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.
