The 2017 Sierra 1500 is GMC's full-size pickup, slotting above the Canyon and below the heavy-duty Sierra HD. It squares off against the Ford F-150, Ram 1500, and Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The Sierra rides smoothly for a full-size truck, and its steering is more precise than you might expect. The cabin is roomy and quiet, with an available upscale interior in higher trims and a useful bed and towing package. Heated leather seats and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay set the SLT apart from the SLE below it. Its 5.3L I8 makes 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, sent through a six-speed automatic to four-wheel drive, good for 18 mpg combined. The SLT’s standard trailering equipment includes a heavy-duty locking rear differential, so expect confident towing even on loose ground.
