Miles Overview
The 2002 Avalanche is Chevrolet's half-truck, half-SUV, blending a crew cab with a short pickup bed. It rides more like a big SUV than a truck, which owners say makes long trips surprisingly comfortable. The midgate folds down with the rear seats to extend the bed into the cabin, so you can haul eight-foot lumber with the tailgate closed. Some owners report the transmission and tires wearing early, and the dash can crack after years in the sun. The 2500 is the heavy-duty Avalanche, stepping up from the 1500 with a bigger 8.1L V8 and standard four-wheel drive for serious towing and hauling. Its 8.1L V8 and automatic transmission make it a strong hauler, though you'll feel the weight and pay at the pump compared to the 1500. The 2500's standard four-wheel drive and heavy-duty suspension mean it handles a trailer or a loaded bed more confidently than the half-ton version.
