2016 Honda HR-V EX

The HR-V is Honda's smallest SUV, sized between the Fit and the CR-V, and it's a good pick if you want something easy to park but with more room than a hatchback. It's not quick, but the HR-V feels nimble and light on its feet, which makes it a lot of fun in the city and on winding roads. The ride is on the firm side, so you'll feel bumps and rough pavement more than you might expect, especially from the back seat. The cabin feels surprisingly spacious for a small SUV, and the rear seats fold flat to open up a lot of cargo room. The EX is the mid-grade HR-V, adding a 7-inch touchscreen and a multi-angle backup camera while skipping the leather seats of the EX-L. The 1.8L I4 pairs with front-wheel drive and an automatic transmission, delivering 141 horsepower that works fine around town but needs a heavy foot on the highway; figure 31 mpg combined. The EX's optional all-wheel drive adds 2.5 inches of ground clearance and a confidence boost in snow, at the cost of a slight hit to fuel economy.
